I believe that strength in character, determination, principled leadership, and integrity are core values that our representatives should have. I am convinced that a good leader lives his everyday life the same way that he would govern, and I aspire to that every day. I promise that when I’m elected to Congress, I will take my good old Hoosier values with me.
I will not let Washington change me, as others have. Many seem to leave their values and common sense at the front doors of Congress. As an example, at home, I was taught that when families run low on money, they stop spending. They don’t go out to eat, go out to the movies, spend money on the latest gadgets. Families tighten their belts, pinch pennies, and find ways to increase income. I believe that is exactly what the government should do. A smaller government and focused use of resources is a better government.
While many promise to resist change while in the beltway, I have a track record of sticking to who I am and what I stand for. When I went to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry, the Hollywood elite didn’t rub off on me. And I returned to Indiana with my principles intact.
I also promise that my work ethic will compare to no other. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for many others in Congress. Our elected Congressional leaders are working less and less, missing votes, not taking time to listen to you – their constituents, and playing politics at every opportunity. I believe that good hard work is the approach to solving any problem. You’ll get a taste of my focused work ethic in the next several months on this campaign, but, after I am elected, you will continue to see me pour all of my energies into serving you, my fellow Hoosiers.
I am also committed to my word. We have seen elected officials change their positions on key issues as it suits their own interests. Whether it is saying they are strong on defense on the one hand, and then taking donations from questionable foreign sources – or claiming to be fiscally conservative and then voting to bail out Wall Street instead of families, it is all unacceptable. Being a man of my word is of the utmost importance to me.
I will tell you where I stand and listen to you. But, on key issues – like being a fiscal hawk who is pro-life, reforming government, and standing strong on defense while not taking money from those in terrorist countries, I will not change on those principles.
Honesty. Integrity. Trust.
